Using scaled models in a classroom setting allows you to teach the basics.
Once they understand the basics, you can train on the large bulky equipment.
During my training as a Competent Person for Scaffolding Installation, I had only a basic understanding of scaffolding. I had installed it multiple times under the guidance of a competent person. However, since I didn't have access to actual scaffolding during my studies, some requirements didn't resonate with me.
To address this, I created a virtual scaffolding system using a CAD program. Then I scaled it down using my 3D printer. When someone saw the model, they requested it for their own training. Since then, we have developed many more models and expanded our offerings to include various other safety products.
